Things You Didn't Know About Monika:
What got you into radio?
When I was 16, I ran away from home. Instead of joining the circus, I got a job doing overnights at Kool 97.3, "All Oldies All the Time". I didn't have a TV when I was a kid, so I was a bit slow on the pop culture uptake.
"Um, John Lennon was a Beatle?"
"Oh, The Rolling Stones are Brittish!"
"The Supremes are black?"
At least I didn't actually say any of these things on the air.
What do you miss most about being little?
Wearing my blue princess dress, but the cat looks pretty cute dressed up in it too.
What do you do when vending machines steal your money?
Body check the machine a few times and then call the 800 number hoping for a check for 75 cents. Doesn't everyone?
What do you consider a vacation?
A trip to Chinatown to the Golden Foot Reflexology Center for an hour with those little ladies and thier incredibly strong thumbs. How I love them!!
If you weren't working in Radio, what would be your Dream job?
I'm having trouble thinking of something better than getting paid to play music and talk, maybe if someone paid me to live in their million-dollar home overlooking San Francisco.
What did the last text message on your cell phone say?
She said "Yay!
Thanks, babe. Will miss you on the playa :( Love you! "
Do you dress up on Halloween?
There are *so many* Halloween parties, and I love costume parties, so usually I end up MacGyvering a few variations on a costume.
Pick a lyric, any lyric or song?
K's Choice 'Virgin State of Mind':
"There's a chair in my head on which I used to sit. Took a pencil and I wrote the following on it. Now there's a key where my wonderful mouth used to be."
What do you find most attractive about the opposite sex?
I'd say a sense of adventure and savoir faire, but lately it's clearly been "emotional unavailability" that attracts me. I'm learning.
Have you ever ridden in an ambulance?
Yes, right after I learned that there's no time-saving tricks to looking both ways.
What's one instrument you wish you could play?
The harp, but I suppose I'll be playing it soon enough.
Can you do a cartwheel?
Yes, and I think cartwheels are an important part of expressing the joy of being alive. I'll do a cartwheel anywhere, but my favorite place is on a moonlit beach.
