Christmas In the Park is returning this year!

But a major staple will not be returning.

According to NBC Bay Area, Kristi Yamaguchi Downtown Ice Rink will not be around for 2022.

Christmas in the Park 2022 will not have an Ice Skating Rink

The rink was originally a fundraising extension of Yamaguchi’s Children’s Literacy Foundation.

And unfortunately, since COVID made literally everything worse…

Low turnout last year, compounded with the closure the year before, and the nearby Fairmont Hotel’s closure in 2021…

The Rink Operators, who were hired by San Jose in previous years, elected not to return as well.

Compounding all of this, the San Jose says they just don’t have enough time to organize another Ice Skating Rink before the holiday season.

The Rink May Be Back in 2023

The good news?

The rink will not be gone for good.

Kristi Yamaguchi’s Foundation isn’t dropping out of the Ice Rink business — NBC Bay Area notes they have another rink in San Ramon opening this year.

San Jose says they’re still planning on utilizing the circle of palms in front of the Hilton for winter activities.

Christmas In The Park is still full-steam ahead for the 2022 holiday season

We’re still pretty early, too.

So while Christmas in the Park hasn’t made any official announcements about events happening this year…

Tickets are now being sold for Blinky’s Holiday Drive Through at Lake Cunningham Park, which is due to return November 26th.

And sure, it might feel a little early to be thinking about what you’re doing around Christmas time…

But it’s never too early to start dreaming of that delicious loaded hot chocolate.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! Mom and daughter decorate the tree outdoors. Xmas night. Portrait loving family close up.
