“Levitating” is one of the biggest songs from Dua Lipa in 2021.

But it might not be wholly original.

According to Stereogum, the reggae band Artikal Sound System have filed copyright proceedings against her.

They allege “Levitating” was lifted from their song “Live Your Life”

And on first listen, it does sound similar:

The chord progression is nearly right on, but the track sounds significantly more laid back.

But it’s not quite identical. About the only portion that shares similarities are in the chorus.

You can listen to the full Dua Lipa song here:

Artikal Sound System are seeking any profits Dua Lipa or her record label have made off of “Levitating” and damages.

It’s worth noting, the Florida band has removed the original song off of YouTube and Spotify, and the ONLY place it’s available is on SoundCloud.

For now.

And for what it’s worth, their 2017 album is also not available online.

It seems much more likely two separate writing teams came up with the same cool idea for a hook.
