Today, June 19th marks Juneteenth, a day the commemorates the end of slavery.

The Emancipation Proclamation was issued on January 1, 1863 by President Lincoln where slaves of the Confederate territory were free.

Slaves didn’t learn about becoming free two and half years afterward.
