Indiana School Creates Take Home Meals for Hungry Students from Unused Food

An elementary school district in Indiana is making sure kids have enough food to eat.

The Elkhart School System has teamed up with Indiana local non-profit, Cultivate, to create packages of left-over cafeteria food for underprivileged students.

Cultivate’s mission with the school is to re-package the unused food to feed those who need it.

Jim Conklin, founder of Cultivate, mentioned that they rescue food from other catering companies and food service businesses which would help eliminate food waste and help hungry students,

“We take well-prepared food, combine it with other food and make individual frozen meals out if it.”

The Elkhart School System is currently working on expanding the repackaged food program to other schools and kids in need.

What a good idea!
