Mattel Launches First Gender Neutral Doll Collection, “Creatable World”
Move over Barbie, there’s a new doll in town.
Toy Company Mattel, who came up with Barbies are now launching their the world’s first gender-neutral dolls.
Why did the company decide to make these dolls? Senior Vice President of Mattel Fashion Doll Design, Kim Culmone shared that,
“Toys are a reflection of culture and as the world continues to celebrate the positive impact of inclusivity, we felt it was time to create a doll line free of labels.”
The dolls are available in a few different skin tons and can be dressed up and styled over 100 ways.
TIME reminded us that these dolls don’t have the same Barbie-like characteristics. Each of the dolls show, “lips are not too full, the eyelashes not too long and fluttery, the jaw not too wide. There are no Barbie-like breasts or broad, Ken-like shoulders.”
We’re into this idea. It’s definitely a great way to break away from gender stereotypes and have kids just play with whatever kind of doll they want.
