The music industry has participated in “Blacking Out” today as a response to racial unrest after recent deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and “countless other Black citizens at the hands of the police.”

This initiative was started on social media and is called: #TheShowMustBePaused.

Jamila Thomas and Brianna Agyemang, two Black women in music created the initiative.

Many record labels including, Def Jam, Interscope, Columbia Records, Island Records, Sony/ATV, Capitol, Republic, Warner Music Group, BMG, UMG, and independent distributor EMPIRE have joined in.

A few of the labels have given their employees the day off today.

Some artists decided they would not be releasing any new music this week.

Others are canceling programming such as radio shows.

There are also plenty of musicians and artists donating to different causes and working with non-profits.
